Among them, one is <a href=\"https:\/\/archshr.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/09\/physiography-of-india\/\">Andaman and Nicobar<\/a> in the Bay of Bengal and the other is a group of tiny islands known as the Lakshadweep Island in the Arabian Sea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Andaman and Nicobar: Island group of India<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Island group of India is from an arcuate chain, convex to the west, extending for a distance of about 590 km with a maximum width of about 58 km. this archipelago is composed of 26 big and small islands covering a cumulative area of about 8249 sq. km. The entire chain consists of two distinct groups of islands.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Great <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andaman_Islands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andaman group of islands<\/a> in the north is separated by the <em>Ten Degree Channel <\/em>from Nicobar in the south<em>.<\/em> The Andaman is 260 km long and 30 km wide with a total area of 696 sq km. this group of islands is divided into three major groups <em>viz<\/em>. North Andaman, Middle Andaman and South Andaman. Little Andaman is separated from the Great by the 50 km wide Duncan Passage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Island group of India includes the Nicobar group of Islands consisting of 7 big and 12 small Islands together with several tiny islands. \u00a0They are scattered over a length of 262 km with a maximum width of 58km covering an area of 1,643 sq km. The Great Nicobar is the largest island an area of 1250 km. Most of the Islands are made of tertiary sandstone, limestone, and shale resting on basic and ultrabasic volcanoes. The Barren and Narcondam islands, north of Port Blair, are volcanic. Some of the islands are fringed with coral reefs. Most of the islands are mountainous and reach considerable heights. They are widely scattered over an area of 108.78 sq km extending for about 200-500 km southwest of the Kerala coast. this island in the north is known as <em>Amendevi<\/em> \u00a0Island while those south of this latitude are called<em> Cannanore <\/em>Islands. In the extreme south, is Minicoy Island. All are tiny islands of coral origin and are surrounded by fringing reefs. The largest and the most advanced is the Minicoy island with an area of 4.53 sq km. Betra has an area of only 0.12 sq km.\u00a0 Most of the islands have low elevations and do not rise more than five meters above sea level. Their topography is flat and relief features such as hills streams, valleys, etc. are conspicuous by their absence. Shallow lagoons are seen on their western side while on the eastern seaboard, the slopes are steeper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The significance of the Island:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Andaman and Nicobar Islands are associated with the oceanic-oceanic collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. This is an extension of the fold mountains of Myanmar. on the other hand, the essence of Lakshadweep Island is called Chagos. These coral islands are circular\/elliptical with a lagoon in the middle.
